Cool. I just discovered tiny jellyfish in my seahorse tank. Where did they come from? | |||||
Chances are, those aren't jellyfish, but the free-swimming stage of hydroids, a colonial cnidarian often found in our tanks. In most marine tanks, they will stay as a small coloney that you'll never see. However an excess of zooplankton will cause their population to explode, and part of their reproduction cycle is releasing a free swimming medusa.
With larger seahorses, they are not much of a problem. However, in dwarf and fry tanks, they can become quite a problem. They eat copious amounts of baby brine shrimp and spread very rapidly. They can sting dwarves and small seahorses. A much bigger problem, though, is that they quickly eat all the food available. Related Topics: | |||||
