My seahorse is sick, What do I do?
There are two main causes of disease in marine fish: Disease spreading from a new animal that is sick and disease from stress.

If you have added any new fish without quarentining for at least a month, that is the most likely cause.

If you haven't, then check the tank for problems that might be causing stress to your seahorse. One of the most common stress factors is poor water quality. Be sure to check your ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. The ph should be between 8.0 and 8.4, Ammonia and Nitrite should be 0 and nitrate should be under 15ppm. If your water tests out okay, seek a second opinion. Home test kits are horribly inaccurate, so test your water with at least one other kit, or take it to your Local Fish Store for testing.

If it still is okay trying and look for other factors that might be causing stress. Fast moving tank mates like tangs, or agressive ones like damsels, can cause undue stress to seahorses. Too much water flow or not enough food are others.

Once a disease is established, treatment can be difficult. Be sure to remove the infected fish to a hospital tank to treat, as most in tank treatments are not strong enough. Read the disease guide to diagnoise the disease and treat accordingly.
